BMW Riders of Knoxville Club President Bio:

My name is Mike Copenhaver.  I am an avid, life long rider (minus a few years while getting my career as a veterinarian started) and currently ride a 1200 GSA, 1200 GS and a BMW G450X dual sport bike.  I have a strong passion for riding and often refer to it as my mental therapy.  As any rider knows, time in the saddle is time well spent away from life's every day stresses.  I have been  happily married to my wife, Darcey, for over 16 years.  She too shares my enthusiasm for riding and rides pillion on most occasions.

We are not hard core rally goers, but we have attended the recent MOA rallies in Wisconsin and Johnson City and are excited to attend more rallies in the future.  We do ride and travel as much as my schedule will allow and have had some great experiences away from home.  We have ridden our 1200GS down into Mexico's Copper Canyon.  As well,  we have ridden GS’s in Brazil and Spain and I alone, had an amazing on-off road trip throughout Peru on a Honda XR650.  Those trips are fun, but our every day riding in the East Tennessee area often trumps any international adventure.  We are truly blessed to have a motorcycle playground in our own back yard.

Rider education has always been an important part of my riding career.  I am a big advocate of rider education and try to attend at least one training course a year.  I feel it is extremely important to constantly practice skills on the road; and occasionally I find and an empty parking lot to refresh my basic slow speed control drills.  As the BMW Riders of Knoxville President, I also encourage our club to host and attend rider education events as often as possible.

The BMW Rider's of Knoxville is a group of fine people who appreciate that we live in a motorcycle riding mecca.   For this reason, I am happy to be President of the ROK club and look forward to watching our club stay active and grow.  With this said, I welcome all BMW rider enthusiasts to join us!

Some how I volunteered to be the web master. Let's face it. I'm an idiot when it comes to computers. That's really all that I have to say.
